Hang up on zooming

Imported a 800 MB WAV via OD, quit Audacity then imported same file
by normal copy in. Both times I get a hang up of several seconds on
pressing zoom-in the second time before the zoomed in waveform is
displayed. There is no busy icon, no swapping out or increased CPU
usage while this hang up occurs.

Repeated both types of import with another similar size file, same
result.

Did an aliased and copy-in import of the same two files in 1.2.6 but got
no hang up on second zoom press.

Tested on a fresh reboot and after several hours use, makes no difference.
Any one else see this? Cosmetic but quite irritating. Windows XP 1 GB
RAM.

I also noticed playing further, that the problem does not occur after
the first time I press zoom-in twice. After that I can refit the project
to the window, and zoom around at will without delay.

Tried it out and wasn't able to cause a stall on my mac, although I only tried it with OD (for wav) and mp3 import.  Does this only happen repeatably with wavs?

Thanks for checking it. I've been looking out for this again since you
wrote, and it's just another thing that seems to occur randomly,
irrespective of freshly booted or not, OD or not, or whatever format.
The only thing that is predictable when it happens is that a second zoom
press straight after the first will cause it, and then it never happens
again in that Audacity session. At any rate, it doesn't seem explicitly
to do with OD.

Thanks

In that case it sounds like your disk is taking it's time reading from the cache the first time (which might be on the second zoom hit.)  It would probably be exacerbated by disk scratching apps like Firefox.
