Why does the zinf src include all that libs?

Hi!

I was just wondering why the zinf source code contains all those
libraries, that could be linked easily in from the system (at least on
UN*X systems, that is), resulting in all those nice advantages of
using shared libraries.

I would like to propose to do configure checks wether to use the lib
installed in the system (if headers & .so are available), or the
version in the zinf sources.

I volunteer for helping here, i'd only like to know which libraries
are in there (zlib, gdbm are the ones i know, but there are probably
others) and if they were modified.

Regards, Andy (ZINF Debian maintainer)

Re: Why does the zinf src include all that libs?

This would be a good idea.

I believe the library source code is included only for the
win32 port. Looking through the logs, I do not see
any modifications done to either gdbm or zlib.

Please write to http://sourceforge.net/users/mayhemchaos/ to
get CVS access.

http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=51494

As to which libraries are already used, just look though the
configure.in and the Makefile

RE: Why does the zinf src include all that libs?

It is handy for us Win32 people to have the library source in the tree for
libraries which are not normally installed. We COULD make people go get the
appropriate libraries (gdbm, zlib, vorbis?, musicbrainz?, unzip?) and figure
out how to compile them before compiling Zinf, but I think a lot of Win32
people would scream....not me in particular...just playing Devil's
Advocate...

I've toyed with the idea of adding the Ogg Vorbis source to the tree, but it
seems a little extensive....Ideas? Leave it the way it is?

I vote to stay the way it is with the libs that are included and those
that aren't. That is to say that there shouldn't be any more added.

there are many more important issues to worry about
