Nuxeo Document Management for the Construction Sector

Hi All

I am wondering whether there are any users/ partners that have implemented nuxeo for the construction
sector and/or CAD/Engineering user base?

Their are various pieces of industry vertical functionality that I would be interested if other users have
tried to use Alfresco for:

1) Document Issuing
a) Revision history and subscription based upon issue list.
b) Auditing of viewing/receipt.

2) Handling of CAD type documents.
a) Extracting Meta-data from CAD documents (autocad etc).
b) Saving meta-data into CAD documents (revision history)
c) Viewing /Editing / Redlining CAD documents in place.

3) The concept of a Project, with associated meta information (i.e. clients, subcontractors, suppliers,
advisors, 3rd parties)

Please if anyone has had any experience I would appreciate the opportunity of discussing the
functionality fit already existing and the work required to shape the remainder.

Many Thanks,

Re: Nuxeo Document Management for the Construction Sector

Hi (James),

Whilst not totally on-subject to what you emailed about... I have
installed an instance of Nuxeo for an aerospace engineering company. I
understand that they use it for both 'management' and engineering
documents and the sizes can be over 20Mb.

In addition I have just this week had preliminary discussions regarding
the tailoring of Nuxeo for use in the building construction sector.

Maybe there will be some synergy...

Regards,

Sean

Re: Nuxeo Document Management for the Construction Sector

Hi All

CAD type files as you both identify are prevelent in many industries. The best document management system
for the CAD / AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) industry have all had integration points
into the most commaon cad format (Autocad-DWG), for the purpose of:
    1) autocad client integration (check-in, check-out, etc).
    2) Publishing revision information from the document repository, directly into the cad drawing revision
history panel.
    3) Printing directly from the document system via the CAD files.
    4) Interpretation of multiple viewports onto the same CAD file as seperate (but linked) documents in the
document management system (i.e. different views of the same CAD file).

etc.
It would be interesting to see how hard that type of integration would be.

The above is probably the harder side of the integration compared to the issue management, which is
literally just providing a new tagging system on each document to label them with the type and revision of
the issue. Then provide automatic links for the recipients to receive update information on those files
that have been tagged with the issue information.

Are there any other types of works that you believe a AEC client would need?

My initial thoughts,

James
