Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1

Oops... This has to be fixed as soon as possible...
In the meanwhile, you may try to run the roboka.wbt world with Webots 5.1.0.

This should now be fixed. Can you download again Webots 5.1.1 and give
it a try?

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

I have tried tu run webots 5.1.1 on a linux system (ubuntu
breezy distro).
It's working fine, except I am only able to run several
"worlds" (for instance, hoap2_sumo.wbt and hoap2_walk.wbt are
ok). But the "aibo" ones aren't part of them.

So, what's the name of the contest world ?

This is what I get with several worlds :
---------------------------------------------------
$ webots worlds/aibo_ers7_soccer.wbt
(webots:14684): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
gtk_label_set_text_with_mnemonic: assertion `str != NULL' failed
---------------------------------------------------
$ ./webots worlds/aibo_ers7_models.wbt
(webots:14751): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
gtk_label_set_text_with_mnemonic: assertion `str != NULL' failed
---------------------------------------------------
$ ./webots worlds/aibo_ers7.wbt
(webots:14790): Gtk-CRITICAL **:
gtk_label_set_text_with_mnemonic: assertion `str != NULL' failed
---------------------------------------------------

Im am using "j2re1.5-sun".

Bye.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi,

We just published Webots 5.1.2 which fixes an important memory leak.
Could you tell me if it also fixes this issue?
Thanks.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi Olivier

I am having the same problem as Bothari, if I try to load a new world
the Webots windows blank out so that they are all grey and become
unresponsive. I have tried on Ubuntu Breezy for i386 (Kernel 2.6.12)
and Fedora Core 4 for amd64 (Kernel 2.6.15). I have Sun jdk 1.5
installed on both of these machines but they also have GCJ and GNU
Classpath installed. I wondered if it might be the GCJ libraries
causing a problem? The windows version of Webots doesn't seem to have
the same problem.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi,

This is strange. I can't get it this problem on my Debian (with kernel
2.6.8) or on my old RedHat 9.
In case, I recompiled webots with the previous version of wxWidgets
which may fix the gtk warning problem and possibly also the other problems.
Could you simply try to replace your /usr/local/webots/webots binary
from 5.1.2 by this one?

http://cyberboticspc1.epfl.ch/ftp/webots.bz2 (2.2 MB)

of course bunzip2 it before (it should display Webots 5.1.3).

Please let me know if that works better or not.

The problem may also come from the OpenGL version you have. On my Debian
machine I installed nVidia OpenGL drivers. On the RedHat, I have
installed the ATI OpenGL drivers. If you didn't install anything, it's
likely you have Mesa OpenGL drivers. Can you send me the output of the
glxinfo command? That would help.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi, still not much luck I'm afraid. I have noticed however that I can
run Webots as root so at least I'm not totally at a loss. I'm running
the latest Nvidia 64-bit drivers with the 32-bit compatibility libraries
installed, I've put the output from glxinfo at
http://robothell.co.uk/files/glxinfo.txt.
Any help would be greatly appeciated.

thanks

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi,

I have tested Webots on a third Linux machine (Celeron 1100, SIS
graphics card, Debian 3.1 - Mesa 4.0.4), I installed both gcj and
classpath on this machine, as well as sun jdk 1.5.0_06, but roboka.wbt
still works perfectly (slow, but ok)... It's an interesting cue that it
works as root user, but unfortunately, it gives me no immediate idea...
Or maybe it's related to file access... Could you delete the file
/usr/local/webots/resources/java.policy and tell me whether that
helps?... Could you tell me if you can start java from the command line
as a normal user?

I will send you a C-based replacement for Roboka0 to test (and also to
Bothari).

If anyone on the list experienced a similar problem I would be curious
to gather as much details as possible.

Thanks.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

Hi.

On my system, the same freeze occurs when webots is run as root.

I have tried with the command :
$ sudo ./webots worlds/roboka.wbt

I have mv the java.policy file as java.polycy_old, but the
same freeze occurs.

If I type java in a terminal, I get the syntax help of the
command. If I do a make in the controllers/Roboka0 directory,
a jar file is created whitout any problem.

Bothari..

PS : I run webots whit the world specified on teh comamnd
line, because loading the roboka world after webots is started
with another one, causes webots to freeze the same way it
freze when the simulation is started, or the refresh button
clicked.

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

I have tested with this binary webots 5.1.3.
Nothing has changed. Same freeze when trying to run the
simulation. It also freeze when I click the reload button.

Kernel used as uname output it : 2.6.12-10-386

The command glxinfo outputs the following :
   OpenGL vendor string: Tungsten Graphics, Inc.
   OpenGL renderer string: Mesa DRI R200 20041207 AGP 1x TCL
   OpenGL version string: 1.3 Mesa 6.3.2

I don't understand why I can see the world, zoom/rotate/slide
point of view, and even move parts of the robot by changing
angles in the tree architecture, all of this whitout any freeze.
There is also other worlds runing whitout any problem.

Maybe the problem is in the roboka robot controller or
associated function calls ?

Bothari..

PS : The complete glxinfo output is below :
---8< ------------------------------------------------
name of display: :0.0
display: :0  screen: 0
direct rendering: Yes
server glx vendor string: SGI
server glx version string: 1.2
server glx extensions:

Re: Unable to run webots 5.1.1 (linux ubuntu breezy)

It doesn't change anything.

After trying, this new version, and because I have a warning
about locale too, I have play with the systeme locale
configuration.

I have used the command :
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales

And changed several locale (replacement of UTF8 version by
ISO-xxx version).

After that, both locale warning and "Gtk-CRITICAL" error
disapears.

I have also changed the default start mode, to start webots
with simulation stoped (by runing another working world before
running the roboka one).

This way, everything is working fine when I run the roboka
world. I can see the roboka world, and change the point of view.

But the freeze occurs as soon as I click the run button, or
even the step button.

Hopes it will help the debug.

Bothari..
