[Dbworld] PhD position as part of the Microsoft-led centre on Information Access Disruptions (iAD)

The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in
Trondheim, Norway, is offering a PhD position as part of the
Microsoft-led centre on Information Access Disruptions
(iAD). Partially funded by the Research Council of Norway as a Centre
for Research-based Innovation (SFI), iAD is directed by Microsoft 
Development Center Norway (MDCN) in collaboration with NTNU,
Accenture, and leading universities: Cornell University, Dublin City 
University, BI Norwegian School of Management, and the universities in
Tromsø (UiT), Oslo (UiO).

Information access technology has emerged as one of the most
innovative technology areas impacting a wide range of industries,
business models and even social patterns. As part of iAD,
the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) wants to employ
a PhD student within one of the following target areas: 

1. Big data analytics.
2. Cloud data management.
3. Knowledge base acceleration.

Specific Conditions: The appointment is at salary code 1017, which
currently corresponds to a yearly gross income of NOK 416.300 (equivalent to approx. EUR 55.500 and USD 70.000).

Living Costs in Norway: A rule of thumb is that one pays approx. 35%
tax on net income. Public health care system is free for all (due to
the tax level). Generally there is no need for private health care
insurances. Education on all levels is free for all. Housing normally
cost between NOK 5000 (for a simple one bed studio with kitchenette,
possibly shared bathroom) and NOK 10000 (for a 3-4 piece apartment
suitable for a small family) per month.
