*Dear all:*

We are going to develop the bin management feature for inventory
management in webERP.

We schedule to finish the specification at this weekend.

        Any comments is welcome!

        Thank you in advance.

        Best regards!

Re: Bin management for inventory

Hi Exson,

This would be a brilliant addition to the system.... there has been
some thought at least applied to this previously.... see

http://www.weberp.org/Old_Site/WareHouseManagementDiscussion

Now of course we have additional manufacturing module and we would
need to look at receiving completed stock on work orders into a "bin"
and issuing stock from a "bin".

Since this affects every part of the system it makes for quite a scary
project!!!

*Hi, Phil:*

Thank you for your information! It's quite helpful.

We'll try to find a way to minimize the modification of existing
scripts.

Re: Bin management for inventory

*Dear all:*

I've got some feedback from my website.

It suggested some basic maintenance items:

       1) The size of finished goods and packing boxes; the size of packing
boxes piling up.
       2) The size of material(components) and packing boxes; the size of
recycling boxes; the size of boxes piling up.
       3) The capacity of transportation tools, such as forklift trucks,
containers etc;
       4) The layout of warehouse, such as finished goods area, materials
area, half-finished good area etc. There should be capacity allocated.

       5) Bin position coding for those inventory.

      Features required:

      1) The system can calculate the capacity of items and allocated a bin
position to them.
      2) The system keep a real time map for inventories.

     Thanks and best regards!

Re: Bin management for inventory

Exson,

The "bin", i.e. storage location, should have available as an option, a
picture and a wiki link. The facility layout is a nice feature but not an
immediate need in our operation. I can certainly think of numerous elegant
visual displays, but feel that the basic handling of locations needs to be
implemented and made solid first.

Is there any thought to a coding structure for locations starting with a
location category similar to the way categories are utilized in Inventory?

*Dear all:*

Thank you for your nice support!

We've got a proposal for this project. After refer to the
specification at this link:

http://www.weberp.org/Old_Site/WareHouseManagementDiscussion , we did some
modification as following:
In maintenance section, we'll maintain four tables as warehouse
area maintenance. We add an area allocation feature for users to handle such
as finish goods area, materials area; or temporary area, defect goods area;
waiting for dispatching etc. That means we'll have area->rack->row->bin
instead of rack->row-bin.
The table for area is as following:

                                                rackcode	var(10)
                                                areacode	varchar(2) refer to

Re: Bin management for inventory

I'm extremely excited to see this has been made a priority!
This has been THE primary reason we have not delved any deeper into the prospect of migration to webERP.

We are in a 650,000sq ft facility. We have thousands of rack bin location, and this functionality is critical to our business.
If it sounds like it might be helpful, I will try to type up some of how our shipping, receiving, production fulfillment, and inventory processes work now (or we would prefer them to work) if that may help give ideas for functionality. We have a lot of documentation from our last ERP implementation on our business processes, and I believe we're a typical & more or less "basic" manufacturer. We stock raw materials, receive orders, produce goods, and store them until sold and shipped.

Subject: Re: [webERP-users] Bin management for inventory

*Dear all:*

Thank you for your nice support!

We've got a proposal for this project.  After refer to the
specification at this link:
http://www.weberp.org/Old_Site/WareHouseManagementDiscussion
http://www.weberp.org/Old_Site/WareHouseManagementDiscussion , we did some
modification as following:
In maintenance section, we'll maintain four tables as warehouse
area maintenance. We add an area allocation feature for users to handle such
as finish goods area, materials area; or temporary area, defect goods area;
waiting for dispatching etc. That means  we'll have area->rack->row->bin
instead of rack->row-bin.
The table for area is as following:
                                                  areacode        var(10)   Primary
key
                                                  loccode        varchar(5)  refer
to locations
                                                  areaname        varchar(30)

           Then another table for rack:

                                                rackid        int(5) auto increment
                                                rackcode        var(10)
                                                areacode        varchar(2) refer to
area tables
                                                unique key(rackid, areacode)

           and a table for row:

                                                rowid        int(10) auto increment
                                                rackid        refer to racks
                                                rowcode        varchar(10)
                                                unique key(rackid, rowcode)

          And last table for bin:
                                                binid        int(11) auto increment
                                                bincode varchar(10)
                                                rowid        refer to rows
                                                unique(bincode,rowid)
So we'll have a unique binid for each bin in a ware house.
Although there is a little chance to adjust the layout of warehouse, we
still need prepare a tool to change the bins for users.

Since the binid is relative stable, so we'll revise the
stock_locator table as following:

                                              binid        int(11) refer to bin
                                              stockid        varchar(20) refer to
stockmaster
                                              quantity        double

For binmove table, I'm suspect if we need to keep this table. I
think stockmoves provide enough traceability. If we should keep this table,
the meaning for this table is goods transfer within one warehouse, the moves
between different area as we setting now.

                                      table binmoves
                                              stkitmoveno int(11)
                                              stockid varchar(20)
                                              binid int(11) refer to bin
                                              moveqty double
                                              trandate  date

if we need to keep tracking or bin moves, we'll add the
stockmovesno to above table. But we maybe should not refer to stockmoves,
since the transfer within one warehouse should not be kept.

          Any comments are highly appreciated!

          Best regards!

          Exson

Exactly Bob, see the notes on the spec at:

http://www.weberp.org/Old_Site/WareHouseManagementDiscussion

I agree that the fundamental structure needs to be in place first before we get too excited about display - having said that it is useful to have in mind the final outputs before you barrell off with a structure that might not allow one to produce such output.

Re: Bin management for inventory

The idea of bin management function is to management of inventory with their
bin location and quantity.
Quantity of each item should be updated automatically from Purchase order
(IN, increase quantity into specific bin location), Sale order (OUT, deduct
quantity from selected bin locations) and also provide interface for
transfer between bins and quantity adjustment on bin.

My suggested specification below:
1. Items list should link to bin with quantity list for each item;
2. Inventory quantity adjustment on bins;
   - Interface for inventory quantity adjustment on bin
   - Interface for inventory transfer between bins
   - On Hand quantity should be calculated (sum up) from bins instead of in
inventory table.
3. Sales
    - In the Sales order interface, there should be list of bins with
quantity for enter quantity to add to order and better with inventory date
(the date of the inventory into the bin, this will be good for control
inventory in/out like FIFO or FILO … etc.)
    - Picking list should show detail bin and quantity as what entered in
the sales order interface.
    - Inventory quantity should deduct and update from their bin quantity
after packing
4. Purchase
    - Goods receive from purchase order into bin
    - On hand quantity should calculate from bins for each item
    - Goods Receive Note (GRN) should also show bin and quantity
