Batch/Lot items issued to W/O

We need to track circuit boards received by lot number. We generally receive
a large number of boards in a lot that is then used in several work orders
over the course of months. To our dismay when we try to issue circuit
boards to a work order, we can not specify the quantity. The whole lot is
issued.

For example, we recieve a lot of 1,000 boards. We need to make 150 parts
that incorporate this board. When we attempt to issue the boards, the whole
lot of 1,000 is issued.

There is no way cotnrol this. Additionally, if a mistake, e.g. wrong lot
number entered, there is no way to restore the inventory and issue the items
from the correct lot.

We need to have lot traceability, since a probelm in one board is generally
found in most if not all of the boards.

We have similar challenges issueing serial numbered items.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Re: Batch/Lot items issued to W/O

The circuit board needs to be set up as controlled - not serialised for this scenario to work. You should then be able to issue a quantity from the lot - either that or there is a bug in the issue code.

A negative issue to the work order should restore the quantity.

Re: Batch/Lot items issued to W/O

The handling of batch items does not work as expected. We create a Work
Order to produce 50 of Part A. The Work Order's BOM requires one of Item B
per Part A. Item B is a batch controlled item.

We can only issue whole batches to work orders. Such in the future might
become a major problem.

The batch issued to the work order of Item B contains 100 items.

When we receive all 50 Part A, the whole of the batch is removed from
inventory. While 50 of Item B were actually used the system charges the
work order for 50 of Item B and removes the whole batch, i.e. remaining Part
B no longer exist in the system. The unused items are never returned to
stock.

The handling of batch items needs to be modified. A batch can be split into
multiple locations, e.g. storage and work orders. The batch number should
not be treated as a serial number. A possible workaround is to make the
batch number be the prefix to the unique identifier:
      <batch number>_<location>

We do have a need to track batch items so that we can trace back to the
original supplier.
