Open Font Library 0.4

Hi all,

We've just completed a soft launch of Open Font Library 0.4. Please check it out! http://openfontlibrary.org

Open Font Library 0.4 features:

* a brand new interface design by Ana and Ricardo of Manufactura Indpendente http://blog.manufacturaindependente.org/
* a host of new features implemented by Brad Phillips of Fabricatorz http://fabricatorz.com/people/brad
* a new translation engine deployed by Jakub Jankiewicz from Aiki Lab
* a new custom wiki built on Aiki Framework http://openfontlibrary.org/guidebook

One of the best new features is that we can now link to <at> font-face stylesheets for each font in the library, for example:

<link rel="stylesheet" media="screen" href="http://openfontlibrary.org/face/open-baskerville" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>

In our next phase we are planning to upload more free fonts to the library, and encourage web developers to use our stylesheets directly on their websites. We'll also need some help translating the site into more languages.

We are targeting any issues to our next release. Please play with the new site and file any bugs or feature requests here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openfontlibrary/+milestone/0.5

We've had a pretty interesting ride these past few months with transitioning to a brand new host and taking the reins of this project once again. We appreciate all the help you have provided us along the way.

Let's keep freeing fonts!

Best,
Christopher

Re: Open Font Library 0.4

Congratulations on a really beautiful site! The layout is simple,
elegant and comprehensible and I really love the color scheme. I like
it that the samples use ligatures and contextual alternative where
available (though I suppose this can happen only in Firefox).

Here's a very short wish list. I think the categories ought to be more
prominent, since I imagine that most people looking for fonts on the
site will be in search of specialized things: a good text font, a
modern display font, whatever. Right now it appears that the
categories only appear on the search results page: many visitors will
never find them. I notice that you can also search by category: could
visitors be informed of this somehow?

I'm not sure if there's any rule for ordering fonts in the catalogue,
which is already big enough to be a little inconvenient to browse (and
I'm sure it will get much bigger pretty soon). It would be nice if it
could be filtered and/or sorted. On (for example) art.gnome.org you
can sort by name or by popularity, and on some other sites by number
of downloads and date. The usual thing, I believe, is for the default
to be order by name. Of course searching or choosing a category is in
effect filtering the collection, so perhaps a drop-down list would be
redundant for that purpose, though I did find myself looking for one
and not finding it.

Just wishes, as I've said. The site is beautiful and functional right now.

Re: Open Font Library 0.4

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the feedback.

We are looking to combine the old layout of the fonts/ page with the new catalogue/ layout.

which has the category links you are looking for. Having filters directly on the catalogue page is something we would like to see implemented.

If you have any more detailed ideas please don't hesitate to file a bug at:

That looks really excellent. Not too much rummaging around for
