 tested with osgeo4w-wingrass6.4.3svn r52715 and standalone
 wingrass6.4.3svn r52715 and the nc sample data set on a win vista-32bit
 and a win7-64bit box.

 g.region -a rast=elevation <at> PERMANENT align=elevation <at> PERMANENT
 }}}

 for tesing:

 - load elevation raster to map display
 - switch 2D to 3D in the wxgui-map-display
 - 3d works nicely
 - switch back to 2D
 - quit GUI => python crashes and freezes quit GUI
