Hi,
Just moved to ubuntu intrepid and came upon an issue with thumbnails. I started f-spot and scrolled through my photos (~ 13K) which started generating thumbnails. After having generated most of the thumbnails I had to reboot. Firing up f-spot again the oldest thumbnails where gone.
I think this new gnome-settings-demon housekeeping plugin is the culprit :

I used gconf-editor to disable the plugin (key /apps/gnome_settings_daemon/plugins/housekeeping/active) and the problem was gone. Another solution could be to change values in (/desktop/gnome/thumbnail_cache/).
While this is not an f-spot bug, (more like a gnome 'feature') it is going to be really frustrating for f-spot users when distributions start shipping with gnome 2.24. And having users tamper with gconf settings will probably raise complaints.
Yiannis.
