Blender to OSG 2.0 Formats

Hi,

I am wondering how others import 3d models from Blender to OSG 2.0, I can't seam to find anything in the archives :/

I would like to switch from wrl to Collada or x3d (because blender dropped support for VRML) but x3d is not supported in OSG 2.0 and Collada does not really work.. I always get texture errors with the files from Blender (even simple test geometries).

So I would like to ask around what formats the community is using? I do not even want anything fancy like animations ;) ..just textured geometries would be great.

I like the idea of using Collada, but is the Blender exporter that bad? is everyone using 3ds Max?? or perhaps I am doing something wrong when texturing..

Best Regards,
Victor

Re: Blender to OSG 2.0 Formats

Hi Victor,

we also transfer models from a modeler (or Google SketchUp) to an OpenSG-based renderer.

We use Collada for assembling static geometry (coming from Google Warehouse for example)
but not via the OpenCollada plugins. They are not yet close to the standard it seems:
http://collada.org/mediawiki/index.php/Open_Letter_March_2012

We had especially problems with geometry having several materials assigned. They came out with only
one of the materials remaining.

We did not try Blender. For Maya and 3ds Max, there is the file format FBX and via it Collada.
You can find a plugin for Maya and 3ds Max below (older plugin versions at the bottom)

What do others use for model export?

Cheers,
