My progress on Dvorak

At the end of July, after much hesitation, I switched from QWERTY to
Dvorak. Previously I had been able to achieve times in the 130s
(according to http://www.typingtest.com)

Upon switching, my speed went down to roughly 12wpm.

I kept track of my progress somewhat:

WPM, adjusted for accuracy
8/5/06 -- 32
8/6/06 -- 37
8/16/06 -- 48
8/20/06 -- 52
8/25/06 -- 55
9/1/06 -- 59
9/8/06 -- 65
9/28/06 -- 74
11/6/06 -- 94

Note: on many of these occasions I took the test more than once, and
used my better time.

As you can see, in just over three months, I have re-learned how to
type and can now type pretty quickly.

An interesting point is that while learning Dvorak, I would go back
to QWERTY every once in a while when I needed to get something done
quickly... I was still a fast Sholes typist. After I could do maybe
30wpm on Dvorak, though, I went cold-turkey on QWERTY. After a month
or so of that, I was surprised to discover that I had lost all of my

Re: My progress on Dvorak

David. According to the emails we exchanged you changed over on 7 July
and have been progressing at 0.7 wpm per day. So you should reach your
old speed of 130 wpm in just over 40 days. See my reply to Craig for
more this. bob jones.
