I don't think that works. (I don't think it really matters much either
because that's the concept on which I designed XFML and it still works
:) 

Colour > red is a simple 2 level hierarchy of facets (yes, you may as
well call red and white facets since they are mutually exclusive). But
what about Things to do > Watersports > Diving > Nightdiving? Where do
you draw the line between a facet and a 'topic'/'foci'?

I forgot this.

In my linguistic example a phonema like /A/ may have multiple phoni [a],
[a:] and so on: we can say, in a SQL slang, that phonema is UNIQUE (i.e.
mutually exclusive), but phono not.

Similarly, for facet and foci.
