Award of ICTIR 2013 to University of Copenhagen/Royal School of Library and Information Science, Denmark

Dear colleages

** Apologies for cross postings **

The bidding to host the 4TH biennial International Conference on the
Theory of Information Retrieval (ICTIR 2013) was very competitive with two
excellent submissions - the standard of applications was very high. This
made the selection process very difficult as each application excelled in
various aspects. In making the final decision, the BCS IRSG Committee
aimed to uphold the underlying theme and philosophy of past ICTIR's. This
philosophy specifically focuses on mathematical/formal aspects of
information retrieval, tackling issues such as: foundational issues,
description or integration of models, retrieval applications,
mathematical/formal techniques, existing and/or new theories and
theoretical aspects. All submissions were thoroughly evaluated against the
criteria set out in the call for bids. The decision was based upon the
proposals as submitted to the Committee.

With much deliberation the IRSG Committee has decided to award the hosting
of the 4TH biennial International Conference on the Theory of Information
Retrieval (ICTIR 2013) to University of Copenhagen/Royal School of Library
and Information Science, Denmark.
