Building Windows installers on Linux

Hello,

We are looking for a Windows installer for Scmbug:

http://freshmeat.net/projects/scmbug/

Does installjammer make it possible to build a Windows installer on
Linux ? I mean, can we run installjammer on Linux and feed it with what
we need to install and "somehow" have installjammer (while executing on
Linux) build a .exe (or whatever it uses) that can be executed on
Windows ?

Thanks,
Kristis

Absolutely. InstallJammer installers can be built FOR any
supported platform FROM any other supported platform. I have quite a
few users who only build Windows installers but build them on Linux
from cronjobs or automated scripts. 0-]

Oliver, they are planning installers for Mac OS X.

Would be nicer to have a port file (macports.org), like the .deb
packages you are building.
Who needs an GUI-Installer on a server platform :-) ?

Re: [unclassified] Re: Building Windows installers on Linux

Damon, is it also possible to run InstallJammer when installing on the
target platform in a non-GUI fashion ?

Oliver, I disagree. I think you are confusing "install in non-GUI way"
with "having someone else distribute Scmbug". I agree it would be nice
to install in a non-GUI way. Let's focus on that.

Re: [unclassified] Re: Building Windows installers on Linux

For Windows, there is the ability to install in a silent mode,
which is simply to install without a GUI or without prompting the user
for any information. Silent installs are also supported on Linux (and
other *NIX platforms) along with a console mode that will prompt the
user for information on the console.

For many users, a silent installation works fine. You are
basically just accepting the default values and letting it install.
For those on Linux who are a little pickier, the console install can
be used to ask the user just about anything, including license
agreements and the like. 0-]
