Dynamic mode could be like smart playlists

An idea struck me today. The Dyanmic Playlists could be organized in a
similar fashion as the smart playlists.
*So, you would add a dynamic playlist to the collection, be shown a
dialog similar to partydialogbase currently plus a widget with all the
playlists possible for the Playlist Shuffle (with a checkbox for
each).
*You could drag or double click it like any other dynamic playlist
(perhaps dragging should incur one of those dialogs warning of its
destructive nature)
*There would need to be some method to indicate which dynamic playlist
is currently being played. Perhaps a bar accross the top of the
playlist with the name of the currently playing dynamic playlist? This
would be nice anyways to indicate more clearly that you are in dynamic
mode.
*The dynamic playlists should be editable (they are not currently).
*There would be a selection of default dynamic playlists, so perhaps
partydialogbase wouldn't need the combo box anymore. It could assume a
Playlist Shuffle. Append Suggestions and Random could be default
dynamic playlists.

Fix: You could drag or double click it like any other playlist type in
the playlist browser.

Re: Dynamic mode could be like smart playlists

I think this discussion illustrates the parallel structure of the Collection,
Playlists and Smart Playlists. I feel that the three structures could be more
closely integrated.

Right now the "playlist" ontology consists of more than four similar but
subtly distinct entities (excluding the current playlist):

* Saved Playlists -- in the classic style of winamp
* Smart Playlists -- saved queries on the collection
* The Collection -- interactive queries on the collection
* Append Suggestions -- Audioscrobbler driven playlist
* Dynamic Mode -- meta-playlists (mixed playlists)

Also, in the HTML sidepanel there are more stored smart playlists like "other
albums by this artist" and "favorite tracks by this artist." Also, the
default smart playlists recreate the structure of the collection view without
being "expandable".

I'm not sure what the best way to resolve the differences between all these
ideas would be, as each of them has individual merit and is not identical to
any of the others. Still, I can't help but feeling that some effort at
integrating them all would be valuable.

I have suggested ideas before on the list which were not generally well
received, but perhaps someone else has a clearer perspective on how to
improve the situation.

Perhaps the simplest fix I can imagine would be to simply make "smart
playlists" expandable in the playlist viewer in the same way that normal
playlists already are.

Dynamic mode has replaced append suggestions.
