I also feel that the ODF MIME type icons should have the ODF logo on them.

I also note that these icons are problematic. IMHO, a class case of
what we should avoid in icons. The SVG icon is too detailed. As a
result, when it is rendered is smaller sizes it becomes useless. The
PNG icons for 16x16 and 22x22 and possibly 32x32 need to be hand
optimized to increase their visibility. However, with an icon this
detailed, this is not really possible.

I suggest something like the attached which can be optimized in the
small sizes. For ODF text, the ODF logo should be added.

And no. We are not going to make a prehistoric icon theme only because it has to look good at 16x16 and 22x22.

Why is there no longer the ODF overlay on the
application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.text.svg ?

We think that being odf mime default for many office suites they should be the more generic possible.
Adding a logo to it would make users think that's the logo of the office suite, while it's not in this case.
Is ODF really a vendor?

Re: [kde-artists] KDE/kdelibs/pics/oxygen

Since this is about a mime-type the icon will be shown for all files that
match it.
Which means that files from OpenOffice, from KWord and from other sources
all share this icon.

The idea of having the 'odf' logo was to counter the problem that there is
no application that you can identify the file with anymore. But you
still need something to say its an 'office' file.

So, in that respect ODF can be seen as a vendor. As its the type of all
the different office fileformats.

From my point of view it's not the logo that make the icon mean it's an office icon. Also because the ODF logo doesn't help to understand that.
If I see a set of icons that are clearly office related and have the ODF logo, I would probably look for a ODF Office Suite. I'm not sure the avarege user know what's the ODF initiative is.

So right now, all the office related documents have the dots on the side or a sort of ruler for the template.
I'm open to change this in the future but for now we're trying finish the default office mime without  the ODF logo in it.

has i stated before i agrea with david on this mater.
also the odf logo is a bit complicated to do small at least 8x8 px and that is
cousing some problem on the samall mimes.
of has we all expect odf becomes the standard document format there is litle
point in puting logo's in it IMO
