KDE 3.2 + Icon issue

Hello. Just got done installing KDE 3.2.2 from the ports on
FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE p-5 and I cd'd to /usr/local/share/icons/
and removed the ones I know I will never use but left
default.kde. I have tried installing some new icons but everyone
I install wont set. It installs the icons but I just can't load
them. I don't even get an error. No fonts at all for me in kde
3.2 right now. Would appreciate some help. Thanks in advance.

You should definitely leave hicolor and crystalsvg ; default.kde is a link to
crystal, I think. If you ditch the hicolor and crystalsvg, important icon
theme inheritance information will go missing.

I just fetched the lila icon set from kde-look, untarred it in
$KDEDIR/share/icons, which creates a lilasvg/ directory there, and ran the
control center. I could select the theme and voilá! it works.

Re: KDE 3.2 + Icon issue

Well, I untared crystal.tar.gz in /usr/local/share/icons and
renamed the new directory 'crystal' to 'crystalsvg' and tried
loading the fonts. works now. thanks.

Don't do that. default.kde is a symlink pointing to the directory containing
iconset you have currently set as the default. If you deleted everything else
but the symlink, you will have no icons left.

First, reinstall kdebase to get the standard icons back, then try some of the
icon ports in ports/x11-themes.

Did you mean to type "icons" here? If so, see above.

Re: KDE 3.2 + Icon issue

I thought about that as well. Didn't work

Unquestionably, there is progress. The average American now pays out
twice as much in taxes as he formerly got in wages.

They most certainly do work. Try fixing up your standard icons like I
described in my other mail, then try some of those ports again.
