status of this list

Hi, sorry if this is obvious, but is this list now redundant? Should I
be using the ggogle groups list?

I've been wondering that myself... What should we do?

Google groups is great - I especially like it if you forward it to your gmail account, where it rolls each discussion up into a single trheaded email.  Let's use it.

Re: status of this list

What are the advantages to using the google group, I've not signed to
it, and would be interested in knowing what it adds to decide in the
move. For now this list is just good enough and I would appreciate it
things could get posted at both.

Thanks for any info,

Re: status of this list

I hope I didn't start a problem with this list...
I propossed its creation in the old user's list because I saw that It took
too long to get updated and it was uncomfortable to browse and find
information in it.
Everybody seemed to be happy with the idea, so I started the new one.

Rodrigo, if you think this is not convenient, please let us know what to
do...

Luis

I don't think you did.

Yes. I like google groups too.

I'd rather have a single users mailing list just to keep it simple
(specially for newcomers) but I don't mind having more than one... I
think it's up to us (everyone subscribed to any one of the two lists)
to decide.

user@... currently has 77 subscribers (excluding me).
boolang has 27 (again excluding me).

The question is, why would the remaining 50 subscribers (assuming
there's a total overlap between the two resources which I'm not sure
is true) migrate to boolang?

AFAICS:
    1. boolang has instantaneous google style searching;
    2. boolang has a very useable web UI;
    3. ??

Are these two points enough to justify an exodus? You decide...

Re: status of this list

I think that the Boo Mailing List should be abandoned.

Already the traffic on the boo users list has died out in favor of
everyone using the Boo Language group. Of course, the additional
benefit is that you can subscribe and have threads sent to your e-mail
address if you don't like the web UI, so there's no difference for
people who prefer their e-mail client.

Re: status of this list

Now, just in case I come off that way, I did not mean to be
particularily egomaniacal about the matter. Its just that the Boo
Mailing list, for all its members, is relatively dead quiet with more
and more people using the Boo Language Newsgroup instead. Also, people
seem more inclined to respond to the newsgroup posts than the mailing
list posts.

I'm not harshing on the people who favor the mailing list, mind you,
but this is basically how i see it: My GMail inbox is full of e-mails
tagged "Boo Newsgroup" and there's only one "Boo List" e-mail on the
front page, and this one is it.

.... well I'm not a naive user of programming tools, but I find that
even though I have a password and login I am unable to join the boo lang
group. I don't need the extra hassle. I don't know what the problem is,
but perhaps the "beta" should make people pause before leaping. I'm not
a fan of google's policy of demanding cookies, but even though I relent
and allow them I cannot get the interface to work.

I can sign in, but not join the group. I use firefox.

I'm sending an invitation directly to you from Google to join the
group. If that doesn't work, I can manually add your email address to
the group. Just let me know.

I managed eventually to join using email. Seems I had blocked not only
www.google.com, but google.com & groups-goo.... etc etc. After searching
through all my blocked cookies it seems I can make it work through the
web. Thanks anyhow.
