I knew that they no longer work, but thought this rather to be a bug.
Why are they no longer relevant? Of course there are situations 
where a REDRAW or REDRAW WINDOW would be a simple solution, IF 
they would work.
Can´t be too hard for 4D to simply redraw a window on request, 
or am I missing something?

Agreed.

I also can't see, why these commands became obsolete.
Sometimes they are pretty useful.
Resizing the window instead is not the best alternative, I'd consider
that a workaround for a bug ;-)
