Re: unsubscribe

If you want to unsubscribe, don't send it to the damn list, send it to
ruby-doc-ctl <at> ruby-lang.org with (only) 'unsubscribe' in the body of the
email.

Thanks,

Also, someone should tell Anselm Heaton that his vacation message is spamming
hundreds of people :-D.

I wrote to the support E-mail given in his auto-spammer message.

Eeeek !

I can't tell you how sorry (and embarassed) I feel about this.

I always set mailing lists to no-mail when I'm away ; somehow I forgot this
one (probably because of low traffic). That is obviously no excuse for
spamming hundreds of people, and I am (once again) terribly sorry for this.

Thank you for your patience,
Anselm

Policy - Re: unsubscribe

Conrad.

Maybe someone could write a ruby script to append the unsubscribe information at the end of all the messages, because it's clear as mud. I unsubscribed to all the ruby list a long time ago, except this one. Assume it was a bug, so thanks for responding.

When you have this many people obviously confused, then someone in Ruby List Admin land should take note.

Regards,

Ned

Another idea to consider would be a Mailman (or whatever) hack that would
unsubscribe users even if they mess up and send it to the list.

It's pretty easy to find, look at the 'List-Unsubscribe' header of the every
email sent by the list server. Documentation on how to control the
subscription is in the same place as the subscribe location so maybe people
should read that when they sign up :).

this is clear as mud??

List-Id: ruby-doc.ruby-lang.org
List-Software: fml [fml 4.0.3 release (20011202/4.0.3)]
List-Post: <mailto:ruby-doc <at> ruby-lang.org>
List-Owner: <mailto:ruby-doc-admin <at> ruby-lang.org>
List-Help: <mailto:ruby-doc-ctl <at> ruby-lang.org?body=help>
List-Unsubscribe: <mailto:ruby-doc-ctl <at> ruby-lang.org?body=unsubscribe>

Seems clear as day to me... esp since basically EVERY mailing list
package out there does this.

The List-* headers are the standard location for mailing lists, it's
always the first place I look.

PS: Don't top-post.
