Exception thrown during installation

Hello,

I want very much to start using Scala. Frankly it
has been a while since I have used Java and I am sure
things like Java-related environmemt variables (on
Linux) have changed. When I run "install.bin", I get
the following exception:

[vigalchin <at> localhost FTP]$ ./install.bin
Preparing to install...
Extracting the installation resources from the
installer archive...
Configuring the installer for this system's
environment...

Launching installer...

Exception in thread "main"
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/zerog/lax/LAX

I strongly suspect this is because a .jar file cannot
be found. Please tell me all Java-related environment
variables that must be set. BTW I have installed The
Sun 1.4.2 Java SDK!

Kind regards, Vasili

Hello,

it's difficult to say what is wrong.
If I were you, I would try to install the archives files
(zip or tar.gz) available on Scala web site that do not
require the use of "Install anywhere".
