modules in epylog

Hi there,

I’m *extremely* new to Linux so apologies in advance if you deem me a noob.

Firstly, is Epylog still supported and do people use this mailing list?

Next, I have syslog-ng running on Slackware. I don’t seem to have a module.conf file within /usr/etc/epilog/modules.d. Is there not a template file provided? Or do I even need this file of does epilog.conf read from the other configs on /modules.d.

When I run epilog it says:

“Could not init logfile for entery “/var/log….etc”

Module “Logins” disabled.

It says all the modules are disabled, however looking in the logins.conf enabled = yes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks J

It's no problem, though Slackware is an odd choice in that case. :)

Yes, it's supported. The list is mostly quiet. I like to think it's
because nobody ever has problems with my software, but it's probably
because Epylog is not very widely used.

This is best answered by reading documentation. Particularly since I'm
not sure what you are asking. Config files are only provided for
existing modules, and are named like logins.conf, etc.

It auto-disables them since it can't find the logfiles listed in the
module config file. Since you're running on Slackware, the log files
will probably be in different places, so you need to edit the files in
modules.d to point to the actual place where logs are stored.

It's also partly because I've seen several messages from you hinting that
epylog 2.0 is going to 1) be so much better and 2) use incompatible parsing
modules and 3) happen relatively soon. So I've basically decided to wait
until then to look at it much.

I was reluctant to put much work into it, since my future is a little
hazy. I should be able to get cranking on that once I'm in a situation
where I can be certain of being able to provide support for E2 when it's
out.

I will know by mid-July.

Understood -- I definitely know how that goes. Just wanted to help explain
the silence. :)
