DVD Spanning

Hi All,

I need an app capable of burning data to DVD's and capable of Spanning.

Disco, does not actually do this and Austin has acknowledged the bugs,
but no idea when it will be fixed.

What other applications are there?

Thanks,

-Jason

Re: DVD Spanning

Have you looked at Roxio Toast?

Re: DVD Spanning

I have owned Toast 6 and 7 in the past and they were always very buggy.

Has Roxio changed since then?

Is Roxio a big company now-a-days?

Re: DVD Spanning

Still using Toast 8 here. It is used to archive projects to DVD and
works well albeit slow as expected... The only problems I have had in
the past was using a DVD burner who's firmware was out of date...
replacing the DVD writer with a newer model usually did the trick...
sometimes you could flashwrite an updated version of the firmware and
it would work...

I would say that Roxio will be around for awhile and that their
product works very well... and I don't even get any money from them...

I wish however that they would write drivers for auto loading DVD
burners such as the Primera Bravo so that you did not have to feed
DVDs all day...

The only other disk spanning systems I have looked at have been
Windows based solutions.

Good luck.

Apple Backup (gagging sound from the eanut gallery)

also look at man page for hdiutil, the span option

Re: DVD Spanning

Toast works. You can span files across DVDs and (IIRC) it includes an
application on the disk(s) to extract the archives and stitch them
back together (so even if Roxio / Toast goes away, as long as this app
still runs you can extract the files).

Cheers,
Ashley.

One note, Toast 9 finally does spanning correctly, giving you the
option to NOT split files across DVDs.

It only took them 5 years...

which reminds me, there are scripts kicking around that will
divide a folder for you into folders representing segments that
fit within a given media size, without splitting files; i can't
recall where to find them, but i recall starting to tackle it
myself and seeing that it was far from a trivial problem,
especially if symlinks/aliases were to be preserved and media
usage were to be optimized
