Suffix "msg"

I got some mail attachments with suffix ".msg".
None of my apps will open that correctly in Leo.
To what app do those files belong to??

Re: Suffix "msg"

Thanks, Jared, for your reply.

But:
The site says it is a text file, but Textedit (Mac text editor)
refuses to open the files. Word gives an chaos of characters,
Entourage, Mail.app etc. refuses service.
What Mac App can open them??

Rudolf

Try "file" from the command line. If that doesn't help, try "strings"
from the command line and see if it shows you anything useful.

If you're not comfy with the command line, you have two options:
1, give it to someone who can help.
2, get the person who sent it to tell you what it is.

Re: Suffix "msg"

It could be a MIME digest - try dropping it on Stuffit Expander or
other app capable of extracting MIME digests.

I think Roger is on the right track. Its likely an archive produced by
saving a message in, or exporting one from Outlook. If the original
message was text only, the .msg file should be parsed by any decent
editor. If there were attachments present, it may well be in the form
of a digest, but knowing MSft, it may well be only MIME-like compliant
- maybe something like their dreadful TNEF package format ?

Mark.
