Thanks Jamie
I have tried all what you mentioned below to no avail. This is the HW rule
the image bundle exists, is enabled and points to a valid image file, I have incremented its number, but
nothing seems to help.
If anything is obvious, please let me know. Also, thanks for the info on menus

but I cannot assign it an imaging task, as it was not "deployed". I know, Jamie said that can happen
automatically, but at this stage I could not find.
On a separate note, I had a meeting with my tech guys and we have decided to stay with Ghost for at least another
year. Whilst I am sure we are just about there, in terms of imaging we felt that with the move to W7,
deployment of another year level of laptops, taking the numbers to 906 next years, moving a number of
services to Windows servers, we better keep something to what we know well.

Hey Jamie,
Can you please clarify why the bash script is used for rename? You say that its for a workstation rename after
being imaged, I can't see why there is a need for this? Maybe if it was to get the identity into the management
DB if one did not already exist, ie they are all newly procured machines??
I have not used ZCM yet, but from my reading of the doco so far, the concept of image-safe data on the HDD still
exists. The ZENWorks Imaging Agent that runs with Windows detects a just imaged flag set, and restores the
image-safe data consisting of NetBIOS name and eDir (or ZCM's db) identities to the the loaded operating
system instance.
BTW, Paul, this was a huge advantage I found coming here with ZfD Imaging over Ghost when having computer
identities existing in eDir. The problems we used to face when we did it with Ghost involving SID change,
Ghost Client machine rename, "zwsreg.exe -unreg", "zwsreg.exe" to get the golden master's image
identity out of the registry, and then to get the post-image identity back in goes completely away when
using all the Novell tools instead.

Hi Paul & list,
:) Since MOE I dont really have to worry too much about that issue, I`m assuming you want to assign a
workstation name after re-image.
I know when I did my ZEN course there were a few BCC people and they use to achieve this via the imaging scripts
setup (action set in the imaging bundle)and it would be done just after the imaging completed (its a bash
script). eg a script with MAC to Wks name I think it was.
We have something similar here but is achieved via a xml script (EQ MOE did it for us - not done by me). However I
must admint imaging scripts are a black art and when I went searching about a year ago I couldnt find out much.
Heres an example we were given in the course although I`m kicking myself as I lost the names.csv example
which I believe was just the MAC to Workstation name conversion
#!/bin/bash
# Get a list from the server tftp server
tftp $TFTPIP -c get names.csv
dos2unix -n names.csv linuxnames.csv
# Get the mac address
MACADDRESS=$(ifconfig eth0 | grep HWaddr | awk '{print $5}' | tr -d :)
# Find the name from the file
NEWNAME=$(cat linuxnames.csv | grep -i $MACADDRESS | cut -d"," -f2)
zisedit ComputerName=$NEWNAME
You would simply add that as an imaging script action in your imaging bundle....sorry but havent used the
above but maybe you could get it working :)
Hope I have helped....you can see zisedit is simply used to assign the name at the end.

formatted HD. I boot to PXE, Ctrl Alt delete gets to the menu, I use the Imaging Maintenance option to get to
tha bash prompt. Zisedit allows me to enter the various parameters. I can then discover the workstation,
but I cannot assign it an imaging task, as it was not "deployed".
Cheers
Paul

Hi John
Thats correct only for new machines or HDD replacements - yes the ZISD works for those machines being
re-imaged and have already been registered into the ZCM Zone eg. their name etc is stored in the ISD aread of
the disk.

Hey Jamie,
Can you please clarify why the bash script is used for rename?

#!/bin/bash
# Get a list from the server tftp server
tftp $TFTPIP -c get names.csv
dos2unix -n names.csv linuxnames.csv
# Get the mac address
MACADDRESS=$(ifconfig eth0 | grep HWaddr | awk '{print $5}' | tr -d :)
# Find the name from the file
NEWNAME=$(cat linuxnames.csv | grep -i $MACADDRESS | cut -d"," -f2)
zisedit ComputerName=$NEWNAME
You would simply add that as an imaging script action in your imaging bundle....sorry but havent used the
above but maybe you could get it working :)
Hope I have helped....you can see zisedit is simply used to assign the name at the end.

Hi Jamie
Thank you for the kind offer, I will. I have ZEN 10SP3, I have installed couple of weeks ago. I can deploy
bundles, got PXE going and I have managed to take an image of both XP and W7 workstation. I have also managed
to multicast an image, so that is all good.
I am not able to find out where you would apply configurations in a way Ghost does it. I.e. to change the
computer name etc.
Cheers

Wow 5 posts in a day, the silence has been deafening of late :(
And yes, I would not mind that link either. Given that I am struggling with
migration to ZEN 10, potentially ZEN imaging (ghost currently is getting
rather expensive given I will have close to 900 devices next
year) and trying to develop some strategy for a full W7 rollout at the start
of the year.

Hi guys,
Novell recently had a really decent looking online event as per the subject
of this message.
As usual it was held at 3am AEST and therefore I missed it. They have
promised an archived version, though.
My problem is that the support at Novell's web delivery partner for this
appear to be totally incompetent and keep giving me links to other
organisations' online events instead. Does anyone on here have the link to
the archived version of this event?
