IP multicasting

Can Theora be streamed IP Multicasting?
Can Cortado support IP multicast?
if not, could some add IP multicasting to Cortado?

Yes. There's an internet draft, but it's a bit experimental. The
elphel.com cameras can do it, for instance.

It doesn't currently support that.

Someone certainly could. :-)

That sounds interesting, could you hint me to this draft?

Thanks - Yorn

http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/theora/doc/draft-ietf-avt-rtp-theora-00.txt

Linked from the xiph.org front page. IIRC it needs updating with the
header-transmission stuff from the corresponding vorbis draft.

Re: IP multicasting

Ralph,

thanks for the link, I saw that draft before, but didn't get the direct
connection to multicast transmission.

Is there somebody working on an implementation? And is there an agreement for
the header transmission, as this seems to be quite vague from the draft.

Are there any plans for firefox to implement rtp for the video-tag?

No plans at the moment.

The elphel implementation is the only one I'm aware of. Look at the
vorbis draft for more details on the proposed header transmission.
Both codecs have essentially the same requirements there and the plan
is to use the same format. The theora draft just hasn't been updated.

Re: IP multicasting

I read the vorbis-rtp draft as well. This draft gives only suggestions on how
to transfer the headers (because it is not an RTP issue). Additionally I
found some discussions from 2005 on the xiph-rtp mailinglist (e.g. about
using SDL and how to reconstruct the header by only few information). This
was the reason for my question: If there was an implementation it would have
been nice to know what method it uses.

Maybe it's time to begin ;-)

Hmm, I thought the newer draft was more clear than that. You might
want to ask on the xiph-rtp list.

There's also some test code at http://svn.xiph.org/trunk/xiph-rtp/ to
get you started. I think it does inline headers though.

What software can I use to do the streaming?
