Detecting if you're being managed...

[OT: I sometimes have a problem with this at work too ;)]

Is there any way for an app to know if it's being managed? Some of my
programs can update themselves (MimeMan being one) but that's not ideal
if they're being managed so I'd like to be able to detect the situation
when my app is run.
