Crashes adding new tasks with 0.70.1

Hi guys,

I just had 0.70.1 crash on me for the third time today when trying to add a new task, some seconds after I hit the "OK" button.  I have successfully added at least one task today.  WinXP SP 2.  I'll file a bug report from home, but I'm not sure what more info I can contribute.

No, that's highly improbable. Whenever an exception happens in Task
Coach, the error messages will be written to that file. The error
messages only say which line of code in Task Coach tried to do
something impossible (like removing something from an empty list,
dividing by zero, invoking a method that does not exist) and how it
got there. I can't remember that the log file ever contained data
entered by the user and even if it would, it would be very little (for
example the subject of one task). Moreover, the log file is just a
text file, so you can check the contents in notepad before you add it.

Cheers, Frank

Yeah, well, that's really why I asked: it's a >12MB text file. =8-0

If you never removed the taskcoach.exe.log it might contain error
messages from old versions of Task Coach. You can rename the
taskcoach.exe.log to something else and then run TC until you get a
crash. After that, please check the new taskcoach.exe.log and attach
that one to the bug report. I expect it to be much smaller.

Thanks, Frank

Ends up that whatever is happening is not dumping anything to taskcoach.exe.log.  The 12MB one hasn't been modified since 2008-6-30, and I renamed it, just had another crash, and it didn't get regenerated.

Can you trigger the crash when starting with an empty task file? If
you can trigger the crash at will, please document the steps as
exactly as possible and add them to the bug report.

I've had some sigsegv under Linux but I'm waiting to upgrade
wxPython and see if it happens again before looking into it. Do you
use the Windows binary or a source distribution ?
