select packages and "kick start cd"

Hello List,

I am a noob to t2 - it looks like a great project. I have read the handbook and managed
to build and install a minimal system.

The first question I have is the handbook talks about being able to select the packages you
want in expert mode during config. I have been unable to figure out how to do that.

All I see is options on configurations on various classes of packages - such as games, etc.

What am I missing?

Secondly is there some way to create a "kickstart cd" which would automatically do all the install
steps? We are looking at building an appliance where the configuration and installation
would always be the same. So once we did one installation we would like to then be able to use
that as a template to create a CD that was a load an go to automatically replicate the initial
installation.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or ideas.

Regards,
Steve

To be able to add or remove any package you should select "Show expert
and experimental options" in the configuration menu. That will bring an
additional menu. There you should select "Custom package selection"
and after it select "Edit package selection rules". To add a package to
your configuration you should place "X packagename" in the Package
selection rule. To remove a package that as been selected by default in
your target you should place "O packagename".

Thanks,

Well this seems really painful.

I guess I was looking for a list of packages with a checkbox next to each package

You can define your whole own install procedure. For example the archivista
target (livecd) has an own installer, with custom (and pre-defined)
partitioning
and allows to boot into the "installer" by specifing "install" in the kernel
arguments during boot.

The default installer has no "auto-install mode" (patches welcome), but for
a custom appliance solution companies so far always coded their own custom
ideas, anyway.

Yours,

PS: If you seek for commercial support or development help you can also
contact e.g. ExactCODE to create a solution matching your spec.
