installation of sipx on virtual machine

Hi,
I am trying to install sipx from sipfoundry-3.10.2-centos5-i386.iso on VMWare virtual machine. I've
change hard drive type to IDE in hope to solve problem described at: http://list.sipfoundry.org/archive/sipx-users/msg11288.html.
But I am still getting the same error message:
"Error Parsing Kickstart Config specified nonexistent disk sda in
clearpart command"

Any suggestion, or there is no option to install sipx from iso directly, but instead install Cent OS first?

Thanks,
Boris

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

Use SCSI.

At the boot prompt from the ISO type in

manual-format

then press enter.

Realize a virtual machine is good for testing and getting used to the system, but not recommended for production purposes.

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

When installing the 3.10.2 disk, especially in vmware, you need to choose the manual-format option. Then it will start the process. To have it run better, set it as a HA system, and run the media server in its own vm with its own HD.

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

Thanks, of curse VM is just for testing purposes.
When I tried installation with manual-format, the setup stopped at partitioning phase, since no drives
were detected. Probably I missed some essential step? Screen shot is attached.

Thanks,
Boris

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

You have to create the virtual drive before loading the disk in, it will then set up the drive. Make sure it is set to use all of the space to start with, otherwise it will fail.

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

Sorry Boris,
The option to set it up should be, remove all partitions on this drive and use default layout. With use freespace on this drive, vmware gives the error you have just received.

Re: installation of sipx on virtual machine

if you're using vmware and installing the centos 5.x distro you should
select "other 2.6.9 kernel" or something like that in the list of
operating systems. use google if you need any more help on this.
