[PiTiVi] Transparency overlay still causing black screen

I've seen this problem on the list before, and it was always recommended to just pull the opacity down from 100% and it would clear it up.

Only it doesn't.

Several catches:

1. It may display correctly in the viewer, but will render wrong.
2. I can delete the overlay and put it back in - the problem is gone for a short while.
3. It doesn't always render it wrong - but my video has enough overlays that no matter how many times I try, it always does it to at least one of them.

I see the latest is 0.15, I'm rolling 0.13.5 (ubuntu std install). I'll try installing the latest from the website and see if it makes a difference.

Interesting. I'm on ubuntu natty, and the only way offered to get the latest pitivi is via compiling (yuck) or std package - I had already done the std package install, that's what gave me 0.13.5

(sigh)

Nope, there's also a third way:

P.S. Just so you know, "compiling" pitivi is actually extremely easy.
It's written in python, so there's actually nothing to compile. You can
just check out the latest version from git or download a tarball, run an
easy "make" command, and be ready to run.

Of course, you'll still need up-to-date versions of libraries, so you
might as well just use the PPA.

Nope, there's also a third way:

added the ppa, got the latest w/ apt-get update

now my vid renders all the way up to the end and stops with "1 second remaining" and sits there forever. The output file is 0 length, otherwise I'd be able to just stop the render and be good to go.

as it is, I'm left with nothing.

ideas?

Re: [PiTiVi] Transparency overlay still causing black screen

Hi,
sorry I couldn't reply earlier, was at the gst hackfest and did not look
at mailing lists.

Have you tried a different combination of containers+codecs for
rendering?

Have you noticed any particular error when running from the terminal?

Does it work if you use the commandline rendering feature?

Does the project contain jpeg/png images or parts where there is only
audio or only video?

Yes, but am open to test certain ones you think "work better". One thing I miss from the older pitivi is the ability to select exact plugins to use for rendering.

Don't know anything abt running it from terminal - what's the cmd line to render a project?

audio or only video?

The entire project has one of two overlays, when it switches from one to the other is where the overlay doesn't show transparency any more.

I was thinking abt compiling it with just one overlay, then take that resulting video and put up the other overlay. Talk about a pain.

As it turns out, avidemux renders the entire thing in 9 minutes correctly. pitivi took a bit longer, 30 min I think.
