something like xmonads 'takeTopFocus' for awesome?

Hi,

we all know that java swing apps tend to missbehave and are basically
not that nice to use on tiling window managers...

It seems like the xmonad community found a solution to the "focus
problem" where switching to a java application sometimes leaves the
application unfocused... It can be found at

As I don't know much about xmonad or awesome internals... Can anyone
explain to me what this fix does and if it would be possible to apply
something similar to awesome?
