Computer locks up with current version of powerpro.exe

I've used powerpro.exe for years but since I recently updated to the newest version (4.9), have had both XP
and Vista computers lock up due to some issue. I noticed it doesn't reference being compatible with Vista,
but I didn't have any issues until I updated it. I'm a proficient user but a programmer I am not. I don't want
to quit using this incredible program but my computer geek advised I do. After uninstalling powerpro the
problem goes away. Has anyone had a similar experience and found an way to correct the problem of my
computer completely locking up to where I have to use tabs to get anywhere, and then the functions is
limited. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Computer locks up with current version of powerpro.exe

Why not just go back to the version that did not lock up, assuming there is nothing specific you need in the
newer versions. Re-install it in a new folder and copy a backup of your pcf that worked with that version. If
you don't have a backup, you can try the current pcf you are using.

But if you need latest version, try this.

There is a help section on vista if you have downloaded the very latest version, 4.9n, download from
http://powerpro.webeddie.com/download/pwrpro49.zip

Ctrl-right click on bar, select about PowerPro, to confirm version of powerpro.exe.

If you don't have that version, try it first.

Otherwise, it will require some trial and error work to understand the situation.

Can you describe exactly what you mean by lockup? Does the task bar still work, for example? Is you CPU maxxed
out (task manager will tell you). What program is using it, if it is CPU max out.

Can you isolate what causes the lockup, ie what you are doing when lockups happen?

Since PowerPro does work for many other users on Vista and Win 7, it is likely some incompatibility between
PowerPro and other programs on your system, or possibly a certain aspect of your configuration that
activates a bug in PowerPro.

To test for incompatibility, try running just PowerPro and seeing if you can recreate the problem. Then add
other programs.

To test for configuration issues, you could start with clean configuration like default.pcf and see if
lockups happen (of course, you won't be able to use PowerPro for anything). If no lockups, it is a
configuration issue. Go back to your base config. What sort of features do you use? Scripting? Timers?

Re: Re: Computer locks up with current version of powerpro.exe

Hello Bruce and thank you for the response. I'd actually love to go back to an earlier version of powerpro but
did not safe my old download and frankly, can't find any link to get me to any. Everything appears geared to
the latest version. I'm apparently overlooking something and would be greatly appreciative if you could
direct me to a link. Thanks, Michael

Most of the older versions are posted in the same place as the latest. Just change the two digits, e.g. here is 4.8

http://powerpro.webeddie.com/download/pwrpro48.zip

Just out of interest, what version were you using without problems?

Re: Re: Computer locks up with current version of powerpro.exe

Thanks for the link to the older version. I can't say for sure what version I was using as it's been a few years
and I just got the urge to update. I'll let you know if this version doesn't solve the problem. Thanks for
your help ... it's much appreciated.
