I am missing my context menus and...

...I do not see a discussion in the forum regarding any failure in this area so I am stuck. I recently moved my
primary work environment from 32 bit XP to 64 bit Vista (mostly so I can leverage the $40 upgrade to W8) and
since i am also running the latest version of PowerPro (5.04b), there are a lot of unknowns floating around
in here. I did pop back to PP 4.9.17 to see what is true there and context menus are not working in that case
either. In addition I do not see the 64 bit dlls so I am assuming that the installation is running in 32 bit
mode and that just adds to my frustration.

So I ask: What am I missing?

evan

PS:

When I install the context menu support I notice that the confirming message box reports that it has
"installed context menu ...\pproctx4.dll". I checked and there is no pproctx5.dll so I am assuming this
is still a functional relationship?

PSS:

I am running Vista Premium with all the SPs and updates.

Re: I am missing my context menus and...

Thanks for reporting this bug, which I would not likely have found.

It has to do with the fact the Powerpro (and hence pproconf) no longer runs as admin and the context install
needs admin to mod the registry.

Right now, the simplest work around is to locate insctx4.exe in the powerpro exe folder, right click on it,
run as admin, and answer Yes to the dialog box,

Please let me know if that works.

Re: I am missing my context menus and...

No, that doesn't seem to do the trick. JFTR, I noticed that all the PowerPro executables are marked to be run
as Admin in the computability group (I recalling doing that when I installed PP5.04b based on some
discussions in this group)... except for insctx4.exe and it refuses to be flagged for admin exec no matter
how hard I think bad thoughts at it. Weird!

Re: I am missing my context menus and...

I am not clear if you managed to get it to run as admin. It definitely has to for context menu to be installed.
Once it is installed, nothing has to run as admin anymore just to use the context menus.

The following works for me on win7. Note that I am not trying to make the program run always as admin, only
once. In win7, you can do that by right clicking on exe file and selecting run as admin (NOT trying to change
permanent status thought properties).

Note also that I operate with UAC turn on and I see the expected elevation checks in both cases.

Method 1: Right click on instctx4.exe and select run as admin.

Method 2: right click on pproconf.exe, select run as admin, select pproconf.pcf from open file dialog, run
context menu install button on setup tab.

If neither of the above work, possibly try turning off UAC just for install and installing while running
under admin.

This instctx4.exe program was written and compiled by someone else before I had access to win7 or a 64 bit
compiler (I never used vista). I have tried to resource hack it to make it request elevation
automatically, but I had similar problems to you -- the resource could not be added. At some point I may try
to recompile.
