LiteStep Progress website

"Lately there has been a rumor saying Litestep is dead / dying. People
claim no progress is being made and that soon no one will use it
anymore. Not only do these rumors annoy the heck out of Litestep
developers and users, it also discourages new people from starting to
use Litestep.

The LiteStep Progress website (http://lsp.litestep.info/) exists to
prove them wrong. By posting all bits of progress being made in Litestep
development we will show the skeptics that Litestep is very much alive.
We will show potential new users that they don't have to be afraid
Litestep won't be supported anymore in the future. We will show
developers all their work will not be in vain.

This site is also here to motivate developers to continue their work.
Seeing lots of other people all work on Litestep related projects is a
great way to get yourself motivated to keep coding."

Tobbe and I created this website some time ago. There are already a lot
of progress reports on it and now it's time to really promote it.
Everyone interested should check it out and all developers should start
posting on it.

"Any progress made on coding anything for Litestep may be posted here.
Advances to the core, a module, an installer, a helper utility, a
website and any other code should be put on this site. Also very
advanced scripts and widgets like fractal.design's DeskIcons can be
posted here."

No offense, but it's going to take a lot more than this to "prove them
wrong." We need some organized, easy-to-find current information on
Litestep if anyone beyond a very small niche group is going to know that it
isn't long dead. Easy to find? The main three TLDs are a good place to
start. Litestep.com produces an error. Litestep.net shows a basic page
with virtually no info that demands that you sign up for an account and log
in before you can see anything (the eight tabs on the top lead right back
to the login page). Litestep.org forwards to lsdev.org's news page - the
last update is pretty recent, May 2007, but it's simply an announcement
that the website will be undergoing major changes. Prior to that, the most
recent update is from 2005.

Google is another primary source. The first four hits are for the three
pages above and the Wikipedia article, which isn't very well done and
doesn't have much on it to indicate that LS is alive and well. Ls-universe
has quite a few new postings, but they're all about module updates. All of
the links listed for LiteStep itself are similarly outdated or dead.

And if someone decided to try the .info domain, www.litestep.info doesn't
have anything of substance on it. It's an ad for people who want to use
the litestep.info domain. Good idea - how about a list of sites already

Re: LiteStep Progress website

It's only hard to find because not many websites have linked to it yet.
Which is partly the reason I posted here. :)

Also, there have been people working on litestep.info. Fractal.design
has a nearly complete site ready and we already have both permission to
use the domain as well as hosting for the site.

also, litestep.com is being worked on and is planned to be finished in
2035 :)

About litestep.net and litestep.org, they are both owned by someone
keeping them in the community. Please feel free to update litestep.net
or create litestep.org. Getting permission for litestep.org isn't a problem.

RE: LiteStep Progress website

How about consolidating those resources into ONE site, instead of spreading
everything so thin it's hard to find stuff? Take all the domains and point
them to the same place, and be sure to prominently place the link to the dev
site? Being as we're fewer in number than we once were, it would be a wiser
use of resources at hand...

Re: LiteStep Progress website

So you want one uber website to have everything? Well guess what, it's
already being built. Like I said though it won't be up till 1035... (See
post before this if you don't know which website I'm talking about)

Yea the ultimate LS website appears through a transdimentional portal
every millennium :D

If I recall correctly c00i90wn is looking for people to help him fix
some bugs...

Re: LiteStep Progress website

The whole reason of letting the LSML know about lsp.litestep.info, is to
_help_ get the information out there.
In fact, we were just talking about this very subject in #litestep, how
the progress site wasn't getting very much circulation.
But, here's an idea. If you feel that litestep isn't getting the
circulation it needs, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Don't just sit there
badmouthing someone else for actually attempting something. "Less QQ,
more pew-pew" as they say.

Great! If I put my work where my mouth is I will be trying to set up
LiteStep at work, which will be my first time running LS in about 2
years. Any activity will help any colleagues who are intrigued by my
possibly awesome theme :P

Re: LiteStep Progress website

I would imagine that being required to have an account to litestep.net is
quite a put-off. I know it was for me way back when, and honestly, I don't
ever check there because there's nothing particularly useful that i ever
find. My first stop for updates these days is ls-universe.info, and poking
around #litestep to see what's going on.

Re: LiteStep Progress website

I agree with this sentiment. I don't use litestep.net because of the
required login...

Making people who may only be curious about litestep have to create an
account just to see some info is off putting.
