Hi all,

In honor of Alexander Doty's magnificent contributions to Flow, Flow has re-published his articles with a
wonderful piece in memoriam by his friend and colleague Corey Creekmur. Please stop by, re-read Alex's
pieces and comment on this important scholar's work. He will truly be missed.

Re: In Memoriam - Alexander Doty

Hi everyone,

I have to say that I'm shocked and saddened by the passing of Alexander
Doty. I really didn't know him except in one sense: I was familiar with his
wonderful scholarship and asked him to review a few papers for Feminist
Media Studies, which I co-edit with Cindy Carter. Often, it is difficult to
convince very established scholars to review manuscripts for journals. I
hesitated to ask Alexander to review manuscripts, although he was the
perfect person who had the knowledge to assess the quality of certain
manuscripts. To my surprise, I didn't have to convince him to be a reviewer.
He readily agreed to take on this role in a most collegial, enthusiastic,
and professional way. As such, he served as a great teacher in his careful
reading and detailed, constructive commentary on the work submitted by a few
promising young scholars.

To Alexander Doty's family, friends, and colleagues: I am so sorry about
your loss, which is a loss for all of us whether we recognize it or not.

Sincerely,

Lisa
