$1800 a month = $21,600 a year. 

Obama started at $12k a year as a community organizer. According to William Kristol, who probably used the
most unfavorable figures he could find, "Obama’s $12,000/year in 1985 translates into an
inflation-adjusted current salary of $23,958." 

So, if you have a Master Plan, and this gig is the first step of it, maybe $1800 a month is okay. Likewise, if the
fellowship really consumes only 40 hours a week, and you have time for some other money-maker, that's not
bad. This is assuming that you aren't raising a family.
