direct RSS feeds vs. feeds via 3rd parties like feedburner

I notice a duplication of some RSS feeds. E.g. there is:

  http://feeds.feedburner.com/FatwalletHotDeals

and then there is another feed that points directly to the same forum
on fatwallet.com. The content appears to be the same.

Why the duplication? What's the point in a feedburner feed?

If there is no difference, wouldn't it make sense for gmane to
eradicate the duplication, or perhaps merge the two feeds into one
gwene newsgroup?

Somebody registered the one, somebody else (probably) registered the
other.

  Best regards,
