The same problem is on mozile ( i think version 0.1 from BXE)
I have put a solution like so...
[use nasty-hidden-form-trickery div and textarea show by CTRL+C text and 
hide by "onDblClick"]

I think that access to .....
var clip = Components.classes[" <at> mozilla.org/widget/clipboard;1"].

is not possibel.... on all gecko version (cross browser version!)
i tested to all PrivilegeManager.enablePrivilege
on firefox 1 , 1.07 , 1.5 and only 1.07 work fine.....
