Dear Shane, Nano is not a unix shell, it is a text editor. It doesn't compile code. If you haven't already, I would check out a Unix guide like the one at: http://info.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Teaching/Unix/ Tutorial Section 7 talks about compiling software, but you may find other parts useful as well.
