Web site design

Guillaume Schaeffer who earlier designed an alternate icon for
SciTE also produced a design for the SciTE web site. While it is more
attractive than the current site, I tend to see web site design from a
programmer's point of view prioritising the informational text, so
don't like to see fixed width columns where information is hidden when
the window is narrow.

Well, the column is already narrow, so you must have a very small window to hide text... And you can still scroll or maximize the window. But if the text was longer, it is a waste of space when printing, unless designing a special print stylesheet. I find it nice too, although the dark orange text on black background is a bit hard on my old eyes... The banner is a bit strange. "Editor for X"? And I prefer when SciTE is correctly capitalized... I saw to many Scite or SciTe or other variants... Nice font here. -- -- Philippe Lhoste -- (near) Paris -- France -- http://Phi.Lho.free.fr -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --

Most of the text is from the main site but with some capitalisation changes. X is used for the X Window System. It could say Linux but SciTE also runs on other Unix like operating systems and even some like OpenVMS that aren't based on Unix but run X and have enough POSIX compatibility to run most of SciTE. RE: Web site design

While I somewhat agree with Neil about fixed width, I must say the design is very nice. Only thing is I'd
center it on the window instead of left-aligning.
My 2 cents.

I like the icon.

The "new" website kills my colorblind eyes because of the red on black.

Looks very nice. I would center the image
and fit the text in the browser window
(so it's not fixed width). Right-aligned text
should be used in the header only.
Don't use two columns, "ChangeLog"
on the main page makes little sense.
My 3 eurocents.
