[Serna] A couple V3.5 (10.17) observations

This latest version is working very well for DITA authoring! I've been
preparing some materials for a DITA User Group meeting tonight and got a
chance to try the integrated Toolkit feature. The DITA OT 1.4.1 maintenance
release will be coming out soon--will it be possible to link it in place of
the 1.3 provided in the installation? (or to point the installaation to a
DITA OT located elsewhere on the user's system or network?)

I was using the Publishing dialog to generate PDF test files today. At one
point, I used PF4 on the master ditamap to refresh the view of some topic
titles that I had changed. Upon calling the Publishing dialog again, I
noticed that the setting had returned to HTML for output. In effect, using
PF4 resets the state of the publish dialog for a document that is still
"in-editor." Is there any way to make the state of that dialog persistent
for the editing session so that PF4 does not refresh the dialog as well?

While inserting Xrefs to external HTML locations, I realized that I had to
insert the format="html" attribute before entering the href atttribute
value. Otherwise, the xref style template tries to do a title lookup on the
URL and fails (since it is not going to a valid DITA target). Among the bad
things that happen are slowdowns, messages, and in one case I even lost the
entire attribute selection list for the xref attribute dialog.

These are not critical issues since there are workarounds. On the balance,
I'm finding the topicref placement to be much easier to do by drag/drop in
the contentmap now--thanks!

In the Serna 3.5 distribution there are DITA 1.3.1 for DITA 1.0
template and DITA 1.4.0 for DITA 1.1 template.
As soon as the DITA OT 1.4.1 is released, we'll replace current DITA 1.4
with it.

'Reload Document' command (F4) fully rebuilds Serna's user interface
that's why the publishing dialog settings do not persist.

BTW, you needn't reload your document to refresh the view of topic titles.
While publishing Serna uses original documents - not their Serna's view.

[Serna] Installing a new DITA-OT (say 1.4.1) and configuring Serna

I have a separate installation of DITA-OT 1.4 which I have customised with
various add-ons and plug-ins, e.g. WinANT Ant runner that saves job parameters,
Mekon FrameMaker adapter, Idiom FO processor, Saxon parser, etc.

I searched for "dita-ot1*"in the Serna installation files and got a number of
hits. However, I am nervous about changing the path to C:\DITA-OT just in case
there are some Serna-specific modifications in the DITA-OT1.3.1 folder.

Can you tell us what to do to point Serna to another DITA-OT installation and
perhaps consider making it easier to configure future releases to use a
different DITA-OT?

Hello Hedley,

You should specify the new path to DITA schema in the corresponding
template.
E.g. in the file
"c:\Program Files\Syntext\Serna-3.5\plugins\dita\oasis-dita-topic-10.sdt"

Set:
<t:xml-schema>c:/DITA-OT1.3.1/schema/topic.xsd</t:xml-schema>

Then restart Serna. Now all the DITA 1.0 Topic documents will be validated
using schema in your DITA OT installation.

Thank you.
