typing does not work well

Hi,
I am using trial version winedt 5.6 for almost 20 days on my machine with
windows vista. Unfortunately, I have this problem that when I push button "
\ " winedt types " > ". This problem appears frequently and I have to close
and open winedt so that it works well temporary and again ....
any suggestion is appreciated

This has nothing to do with typing in WinEdt.

In Windows Control Panel check your Language/ keyboard settings
and disable the shortcut to switch the keyboard layout (usually
some Ctrl+Shift+Left Alt). If you have more than one language
support (as you probably do) you should change the language bar
settings so that the current keyboard (language) is indicated
in the task bar. This way you'll be able to correctly diagnose
such problems and fix the language back to what it is supposed
to be...

If you type the same sequence in Notepad you will notice the
exactly the same behavior. Keyboard layout is particular to
each application: they start with the default language but if
you by accident switch the keyboard layout through Windows
Shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+...?) it will affect the only the
application that is currently in the foreground. Restarting or
switching the keyboard back will restore proper keyboard layout
for that application.

Disabling the default windows shortcut to switch keyboards is
one of the first things I do on my machines. Sometimes after a
major Windows Update you have to do it again... This is
