Apart from basic engineer's reply (The one whom we shall not name! - just kidding), most schools are okay when they just mention - sealed transcripts. Others, like he/she pointed out, will need more detials. Depending upon the school, you will have to add to your transcripts.
Now, I dont know which school you are graduating from, usually, universities/autonomous institutions have a procedure. Most colleges in India know people go abroad for higher education, so some even sell special transcript covers, and charge a fee to do the transcription.
They are photocopies of your marksheets which are signed, sealed, and signed over on the flap. The security, and the procedures involved vary greatly, but are not really hard or untraceable.
What you must avoid is subliminal rumors that suggest wierd tantric proceedings, which means, approach your college, and university directly and find out how they do it. Also, find out from the schools you wish to apply to, what they need.
Time and organization are of the essence. I am not trying to scare you, but it is easy to just have a clean piece of paper which clearly states how many copies each school wants, what addresses should they be sent to, how long it takes your university to provide you the transcripts and mark everything on the calendar and get them done at the earliest.
Please, have more copies than needed in hand, as universities have the habit of claiming they never arrived, or simply, were lost. It is your responsibility to take care of the situation, so prepare in advance.
Here is a sample of what I would do:
My College's Procedure for Transcript
Who does it:
Do I provide the envelopes:
Will they be signed and sealed before I get them, or will I need to help with sealing:
Where are my marksheets, how many will I have, when will I being photocopying them (preferably, asap)
Where will I purchase envelopes if I have to?
Any other details: quirks, phone numbers etc? (I say do not believe rumors, but be cautious and prepare for the worst case situation)
What are the schools I am applying to?
No. of Copies:
Should reach by:
If so, send by:
Where will I get the requirements completed?
Repeat this for all the schools, add the total quantity, have 3 or 4 more in hand.
Also, some colleges refuse to ratify school mark certificates (secondary, high school). It is both ironic and idiotic. The college wouldn't admit you without verifying these documents, but wont re - verify them for you! There is no need for such information, but some schools, if I remember such as Austin want to know what you did from kindergarden. So you can get them notarized or signed by your school people instead. Find out which is convenient and proceed.

Can anyone tell me the best and optimum way to get transcripts especially when ur colleges are in far off cities.
If the Registrar signs alongwith his stamp on the photocopy of the Marksheet and Certificates, does that satisfy US University requirements.
Thanks in advance.
