Label printers Zebra 2844-Z

Is anyone using any of the Zebra Thermal transfer printers (specifically the
2844-Z) for their spine labels?  If so, could you tell me how they are
working out?  Also, how easy is it to change out the ribbons on these
printers?  (We have a different thermal transfer printer that we just loathe
changing the ink ribbon on).

Hi Aleta,

We're using this printer and our only real complaint is changing the
ribbon. The ribbon comes on a roll and it sits under the top cover. You
have to have nimble fingers to get the old ribbon out and the new one
in. To put in new ribbon you place the full roll in first. Then you
adhere the end of the new roll to a cardboard roller (sometimes the
adhesive will stick to the cardboard, sometimes it needs tape). Then you
roll a small section of the new ribbon on the take up roller and, like a
toilet paper holder, put in the cardboard roller. It's a bit awkward to
change.

Maybe this issue is just the nature of the thermal printer beast. :o)
