You are reading out of context. If the defendant hadn't put them on a computer that was "sharable" there wouldn't be an issue. When they sue someone for copying via a computer that is not used to share files, then you can worry (actually, the guy who hires the lawyer who makes the argument will worry about being fined for bringing a frivilous lawsuit or at worst one where damages are the difference in price between the two formats when purchased for a single personal use). "Internet" news is about as significant as "urban myths", and librarians need to be a bit more critical.
