Under her patient tutelage the invaluable Lexicon Topographicum Urbis Romae appeared in six volumes from 1993 to 2000. Involving scholars of different nationalities and capitalizing on new archaeological work in the city, LTUR made available up-to-date and well-illustrated entries on the sites, monuments, shrines, statues, and other elements of Rome's cityscape. But as is clear in this Festschrift that honors Dr. Steinby on the occasion of her retirement from the University of Oxford, LTUR was never meant to be "the last word."
