emacs recipe for rails cookbook

Hi All:

I wanna contribute an emacs recipe for the upcoming Rails Cookbook by O'Reilly, as they have a textmate and a
radrails one. I'd like some input if I can whip out a draft in the very near future. I'm out of touch with
getting gnuemacs as I've been mostly been using xemacs, and I either use the windows installer, install
from cygwin, or use YAST on Suse Linux, so I may want some input. I"m also trying to figure out how to pimp our vaporware.

    Forrest

Re: emacs recipe for rails cookbook

If I want gnuemacs on Windows XP, I usually go here :

http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/CategoryWThirtyTwo

and download one of the precompiled CVS binaries (I like ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/auctex/ as it comes with AUCTeX preconfigured).

On Ubuntu/Debian you can install emacs-snapshot to get a fairly recent CVS build. I've recently compiled the Unicode branch from CVS so that I can use nicer fonts (xft support), but that's a bit out of the scope of a recipe. For those interested : http://www.emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/XftGnuEmacs

Hope this helps. This has always been a painless process for any newcomer to emacs I've suggested it to.

Kind regards,

Chris

Re: emacs recipe for rails cookbook

HI Chris:

Thanks for links, hopefully I can get something written before Rob's deadline, else I have more time for the 2nd edition.  Anyone got good gnuemacs screenshots?  I can take them for xemacs.

Is there anything specific you had in mind? I took a simple window
shot you can use at http://technomancy.us/images/emacs.png

4.7MiB?
I can't open this file in any standard MS/Windows program (IE, Office
Picture Manager, Image Viewer, etc).
