wish to contribute to w3- where to start

Hi,
I wish to contribute to the w3 project.
Is there any place where I can find some documentation on the w3 
code(like the structure, organization), so that it will be easier for me 
to start playing with the code.

Is there any way the junk from the newsgroup can be removed?
